Writer's picture: Hiroshima LocalizedHiroshima Localized

If you are coming to Hiroshima, it’s hard to miss Hondori—the biggest shopping street in the Chugoku-Shikoku region. In this guide, we highlighted where to shop and eat on Hondori Shopping Street, as well as some recommendations on things to do nearby.

Hondori is Hiroshima’s main shopping street, or what locals refer to as shotengai. The street represents Hiroshima as the International City of Peak and Culture. And it’s also a huge part of the region’s image.

The street stretches for approximately 577 meters, attracting a daily average of 100,000 visitors. Before it was rebuilt in 1954 and became what it is today, Hondori was part of a bigger Nishikoku Kaido or Sanyo Road.

From clothing shops to gadget stores to cafés and restaurants, you can find more than 200 of them here. There are also gaming arcades, karaoke bars, purikura shops (photo booth parlor), and animé shops. Whatever your jam is, there’s always one that should pique your interest.

If you ever wonder where to shop, what to eat, and what to do around Hondori, this is your perfect guide!
