Traveling seems to have gone through a paradigm shift ever since social networking platforms came onto the scene. Before, people learned about the fun of traveling when others shared their travel stories with them by word of mouth. Today, everyone benefits from how fast travel information moves on social, whether it’s the airline, the travel agency, or the tourist.

You can find out about how beautiful a place is just by searching for them online. How much more when tourists post about their travel memories on their feeds? The hashtags are even adding to the trend.

No doubt Japan is one of the most Instagrammable countries in the world. Being a popular destination, simply posting a snapshot from your trip here will garner so many likes and shares. But, have you ever tried sharing about your Hiroshima trip? Find out 10 of the best places in Hiroshima that deserve your Instagram feature.

1. Hiroshima Castle

The Hiroshima Castle is the undisputed number one among the most Instagrammable places in Hiroshima. Why wouldn’t it? Seeing it takes you on a journey to the 16th century, and with the lush greenery at the foot of the castle, your mom or dad never has to force you to pose in front of it as it’s your loss if you don’t share the shot with your online friends.

2. Mitchan Sohonten

If you believe the most Instagrammable destinations in Hiroshima are also the top places to visit, think again. There are spots like Mitchan Sohonten, which is an okonomiyaki restaurant, that will surely gain you lots of followers online. Both its exteriors and photos of the food they serve will make your content viral.

3. Orizuru Tower

Only a few steps away from Mitchan Sohonten is Orizuru Tower, which offers a lookout at the best views of Hiroshima. This observation deck, when you share photos of you with it online, will make Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands observation deck fans want to apply for a Japanese visa and see this spot.

4. Hatsukaichi

Hatsukaichi is a marvelous city in the Hiroshima Prefecture, making up the metropolitan area. It was formerly an industrial city where the timber, wood processing, food processing, and commercial fishing industries once thrived. This is the perfect picture spot when you want your post to stand out but in a subtle way. Because you can have water on your background, female travelers can freely flaunt their sleeveless attire as they take pictures of themselves with the scene.

5. Itsukushima Shrine

No temple or shrine in Hiroshima is not Instagrammable. But, there are simply those that stand out from above the rest, such as the Itsukushima Shrine. It is best known for the red torii gate that appears to float as the tide rises. Whether you take shots of it with or without you in the frame, you’ll mesmerize your friends and inspire them to visit Japan.

6. Hijiyama Park

Another temple that’s Instagrammable in Hiroshima is that at Hijiyama Park. Though it’s not as suspenseful as Itsukushima Shrine, it deserves the runner-up place in this category. Be sure to head to the magnificent sculpture garden at the hilltop where the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art is. This is its most Instagrammable spot. Pink gold is the name of the game when you visit during cherry blossom season, adding more flair to your photographs.

7. Mount Misen

At about 500 meters above sea level, Mount Misen is Miyajima’s highest peak. Provided you’ve got clear skies, you get spectacular views of the Seto Inland Sea and as far as Hiroshima’s central city, as well as some Buddhist structures near the peak that deserve a space on your Instagram feed. This is a promising place for an outdoor stroll, so accept the challenge of perfecting the shot.

8. Shukkeien Garden

Now, if you feel like you are Mulan who just got rejected by the matchmaker and is on her way to singing the movie’s anthem, head to Shukkeien Garden. Mini-valleys, mini-mountains, mini-forests, you get the picture. While there are no speakers playing Japanese windpipe music like the vibes at the Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong, you can go ahead and wear a traditional Japanese costume with wagasa or the Japanese umbrella, of course, and feel the moment.

9. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum

Or, you can add variety and contrast to your Instagram gallery by taking a picture with the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum. It’s already built on modern architecture like one of the buildings in Ho Chi Minh. Be sure to write captions that highlight the commemoration of the lives lost in the Second World War during the bombing.

10. Atomic Bomb Dome

Speaking of the historic bombing, there’s the Atomic Bomb Dome to remember the lives lost as well. Apologies for making it last on this list as it’s not as attractive as the others on this countdown, but still Instagrammable at that. This UNESCO World Heritage structure was preserved as a reminder of the war’s atrocities and to be a symbol of hope for world peace.

Hiroshima, a destination in Japan that other travelers won’t see as a tourist-y spot like Tokyo or Osaka maybe. Yet, it is beautiful in its own right.
