This modern izakaya is the true definition of a hidden gem. You can taste some of the best Japanese foods here, from deep-fried oysters and octopuses to matcha. Its bestselling Wagyu beef set is definitely something to try. If you’re looking for a different taste for the palate, order the ginger pork set! Add to this the wonderful garden seating.

3. Grilled oysters at Yamane


The restaurant is right outside the south exit of Itsukushima Shrine, so you can drop by to taste some sumptuous meals. Large fresh oysters are the bestsellers at Yamane. You can have them raw, fried, or grilled—but most people like them grilled! You can also try their beef udon ramen, which is exquisite (thanks to the A4 beef broth!).

4. Ice cream at Miyajima Umaimonokan


Although they serve a range of full meals, Umaimonokan is quite popular for its desserts, particularly soft-serve ice cream. You can have it in matcha or vanilla flavor or mix the two. You can even add cookies to sweeten the deal (pun intended).

5. Conger eel don at Kiyomori-Chaya


This family-run udon restaurant in Miyajima, which has been around since 1955, is a must-visit for its conger eel udon. It’s located near Kiyomori Shrine, so you can easily drop by after visiting the spot.
